Casualties in the Mass Uprising and Demand to the Interim Government from RMG and other workers.

A joint press conference was held on August 14, 2024, at the National Press Club in Dhaka, organized by 4 federations including the National Garment Workers Federation (NGWF), to welcome the interim government led by Professor Dr. Yunus on behalf of garment, shop, and construction workers, to demand compensation for the killed garment workers, shop employees, and construction workers, to seek justice for the killings, and to present urgent demands of all workers, including garment workers, to the interim government.

The written statement at the press conference was presented by Amirul Haque Amin, President of the National Garment Workers Federation.

Present were: Central leaders of the 4 federations, including Rafiqul Islam Babul, Kamrul Hasan, Abdul Matin, Rafiqul Islam, Anwar Ali, and others.

It was mentioned in the press conference that the previous authoritarian government has fallen through a mass uprising of students and citizens. A 17-member interim government has been formed with Professor Dr. Yunus as the head, under whose supervision the country is currently running. Garment workers and other working-class people of the country have many expectations from this government.

It was noted in the press conference that during the student mass uprising:
Total killed: 611, including 11 garment workers (7 from the National Garment Workers Federation), 36 shop/retail center workers, 17 construction workers, 21 rickshaw pullers/day laborers, and 32 children.

On behalf of the 4 federations, congratulations were extended to the interim government led by Professor Dr. Yunus from the garment, construction, and shop workers.
