The Algerian authorities once again set their sights on activist Kaddour Chouicha
The Network
Kaddour Chouicha, national coordinator of the Higher Education Teachers' Union and an active member of the Algerian League for the Defence of Human Rights, which was dissolved by the government, is due to appear again before a court in Oran. See also the June 2023 article.
He had already been imprisoned for a month and a half before the court finally acquitted him on the grounds that the Algerian system considered him a threat to public order. Like hundreds of political prisoners who are still suffering repression at the hands of the authorities and the yoke of a judicial system that does its bidding. The authorities are trying to kill off any protests after the months of the Hirak, a mass revolt by the Algerian people against the military regime. Kaddour Chouicha is due to appear in court twice, on 3 and 20 November.
The member organisations of the International Trade Union Solidarity and Struggle Network condemn this pressure on our comrade, as well as the repression and imprisonment of political prisoners. Our trade unionism stands in solidarity throughout the world!
