The Red

From September 25 to 27, 2026, the seventh European meeting of the International Trade Union Network for Solidarity and Struggles was held in Paris. The following labor organizations were represented: ADL COBAS, CUB, SIAL COBAS (Italy), CGT, Confederación Intersindical (Spain), STCC (Portugal), Rocinante (Greece); IWGB, TUC Liverpool University (Great Britain), Be like us, Priama Diia (Ukraine), CNT-SO, Solidaires (France). We were also honored by the presence of SSTI (Iran), CSP Conlutas (Brazil), and SNTGS (Senegal). Our comrades from TIE-Germany were unable to attend, as they were occupied with their international network’s general assembly that same weekend.

The European organizations of the International Labour Network of Solidarity and Struggles:

- Reaffirm their commitment to coordinating at the international level grassroots, autonomous trade unionism that is independent of employers and governments.

- Support union collectives fighting against repression and discrimination.

- Aim to organize joint union struggles—both cross-sectoral and sector-specific—because our unionism must be rooted at the grassroots level, in workplaces and communities.

- Will support—through information campaigns among workers in each country and through local rallies—national strikes and demonstrations, including those in the public sector in France on September 29, the struggles of education workers in Spain, the mobilizations announced in Italy for the fall, and the call for a strike by grassroots unions on December 4.

These meetings facilitated discussions by occupational sector, which we must strengthen and sustain over the long term. This is essential for a labor network that is effective in our struggles!

During these meetings, we specifically discussed two topics:

-  The union struggle against fascism, the far right, and its ideas, based on concrete situations in each country. Union action is one of the most effective means of fighting the far right, because it allows us to bring together and unify our social class around its demands and for its needs; every social movement weakens the far right because its so-called “populist” rhetoric contradicts its pro-employer choices, and also because social movements are moments of strong social cohesion within our working class and of workers’ solidarity, which stand in opposition to discriminatory policies.

-  The ecological and social crisis, as manifested in climate change and as evidenced by the testimonies of unionized firefighters who battled the wildfires that struck France, Greece, Italy, Spain, and elsewhere this summer. This is a labor issue because capitalism is the root cause of the climate crisis; it is also a trade union issue because of the struggles of the workers directly affected, such as those waged by firefighters in several European countries. We affirm our support for the victims of Storm Dana in the Valencian Community in 2024, and for all those affected by the succession of climate-related disasters.

The European organizations of the International Labour Network of Solidarity and Struggles call on the entire international labour movement to support:

-  The workers of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, who have been resisting for nearly five years the large-scale aggression by the Russian army, including the bombing of infrastructure, homes, hospitals, and residential areas. They are also fighting against the anti-social policies of the Ukrainian government and employers.

-  Workers and the Palestinian people, who are under attack by the genocidal and colonialist State of Israel. In response to the united call from Palestinian unions, we must strengthen the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement. In every country, we are taking action to halt all deliveries to Israel of weapons or equipment that can be used for military purposes; we denounce the repression of movements supporting the Palestinian people.

-  The workers of Iran and the Iranian people, who rose up en masse in early 2026, thereby continuing the labour struggles and the struggles for women’s rights that have been a constant in the country, despite the bloody repression carried out by the Iranian regime. Like our comrades in Iran, we condemn the Israeli-U.S. imperialist war and the reactionary forces seeking to restore the monarchy. No Shah, no mullahs, no imperialism! Women, life, freedom!

We must continue to organize delegations, as well as union and humanitarian convoys, to these war zones whenever possible. We will continue to demonstrate in front of imperialist embassies, but also to fight against our own imperialisms. We support the right of peoples to self-determination and to resist these aggressions, in contexts where it is indeed the aggressor imperialisms that force peoples and workers to resist and defend themselves. The peoples and workers want peace—a just and lasting peace!

We reaffirmed this on the International Day of Peace, September 21: the member organizations of the International Labour Network of Solidarity and Struggles reaffirm their determination to fight for peace. Everywhere. Always.

- But peoples cannot entrust peace to those who start, organize, and support wars—first and foremost, the colonialist and imperialist states. What has been happening for years in Palestine and Ukraine demonstrates this once again. This is also the case in Western Sahara, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and elsewhere.

- The “peace” sought by Israel and the United States of America in Palestine is the complete annexation of Palestinian territories and beyond (Lebanon, …). The “peace” sought by Russia and the United States of America in Ukraine is the annexation of Ukrainian territories and the imposition of the totalitarian regime currently in place in Russia.

- Their “peace” is genocide, colonization, and repression. Their “peace” is war! For global capitalism, war is a market and a tool for geopolitical reconfiguration.

- In the tradition of the international labor movement, and as we have stated in previous meetings and Network documents, we advocate for the dissolution of military blocs and pacts; they serve to prepare for wars, not peace!

- Peace must not be an empty slogan, nor should it endorse imperialist aggression, whether direct or indirect.

- Peace does not mean increasing unchecked military budgets at the expense of public services. Peace does not mean increasing the militarization of states or intensifying oppression, but rather the struggle for social emancipation and an end to discrimination.

The European member organizations of the International Trade Union Network for Solidarity and Struggles salute:

- Organizations in the Americas that oppose far-right policies, which are widely supported and often even implemented by U.S. imperialism or other forms of imperialism.

- Organizations on the Asian continent that will hold a Network meeting in December in Pakistan.

- Organizations on the African continent, to which we committed—in 2025 at the international meeting in Chianciano-Terme—to provide support that we must now expand.

- Organizations on the Oceanian continent, where colonialism—as well as anti-colnial struggles, in which the labour movement must play an active role—remain a reality, for example in Kanaky.

Our organizations will contribute to the success of the Network’s 7th international meeting in 2027, to be held in Spain. But until then, we must strengthen our contacts, ties, and joint efforts. We are committed to doing so!
