Solidarity with the workers at Rockstar Games
The Red
These employees are facing a widespread anti-union campaign: 34 have been sacked without notice. A major court case is due to take place at the employment tribunal from 10 September 2026.
In October 2025, Rockstar dismissed 34 employees from its UK and Canadian studios – the creators of Grand Theft Auto – without notice, citing serious misconduct linked to a private discussion group. These dismissals constituted a targeted attack, aimed at crushing collective organisation and intimidating staff to prevent them from taking action. Despite these dismissals, the employees formed the Rockstar Game Workers Union (RGWU), an affiliate of the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain (IWGB).
In June 2026, an employment tribunal judge rejected Rockstar’s application to have the case dismissed, thereby paving the way for a full five-week trial on unfair dismissal and unlawful blacklisting, to be held from 10 September to 15 October 2026. This trial is taking place just a few weeks before the planned global launch of Grand Theft Auto VI on 19 November 2026.
This fight is not just about 34 employees. It is about defending the right of workers in the video games and technology sectors to organise without fear of dismissal, blacklisting or digital surveillance. It is also a stand against chronic ‘crunch periods’ – those weeks of 60 to 80 hours’ work, or even more, for which no pay is given.
- Donate to the Rockstar Workers Fighting Fund and share this post to help the workers cover their legal costs and support themselves during the five-week trial.
- Monitor cross-border workloads: we are calling on trade unions in the video games, technology and digital sectors to monitor production processes and ensure that Rockstar does not transfer development tasks or additional workloads to overseas studios with the aim of undermining the UK union.
- Spread the word about the campaign: follow the Rockstar Games workers’ union, visit the IWGB’s campaign page dedicated to video game workers, watch our campaign video and share our latest update.
- Send messages of solidarity or record a video.
