The International Trade Union Network for Solidarity and Struggle supports this appeal from Amazon Workers International:

Basaran Aksu, responsible for organising at Umut-SEN (Union of Hope), and Gökay Çakir, president of the Independent Miners’ Union (Magimsiz Maden Is), have been arrested for ‘inciting hatred and hostility towards the public’ on account of their trade union activities; their social media posts calling for support for the workers’ resistance were cited as the grounds for their arrest.

We regard attempts to hinder the Turkish working class’s organising efforts through arrests, travel bans and other measures as a violation of freedom of association, and we demand the immediate release of the imprisoned trade unionists.

The Amazon Workers International network expresses its full solidarity with our comrades in Turkey and their struggles, and regards the attacks on trade union organisations as part of the same campaign directed against the global working class.
