Imperialist bloodbath at the border: 57 dead, Algerian gas and the dark hand of the CIA and Mossad behind the Ceuta stampede

What the capitalist media and the fascist far right insist on calling an ‘invasion’ is nothing more than a smokescreen with which they are attempting to conceal a planned massacre. In Ceuta, we are not witnessing a spontaneous migratory phenomenon, but rather the forced flight of more than 60,000 people, driven to the brink by a dictatorial regime that uses its own youth as political ammunition and geopolitical cannon fodder. The harsh and bloody reality is that 57 people have already died at the border fences and in the waters off the coast. Fifty-seven working-class lives cut short, fifty-seven bodies crying out for justice, whilst the death toll continues to rise relentlessly.

The evidence of state-sponsored crime is now indisputable. The images and videos that have emerged show the Moroccan police directing, organising and physically pushing the young people towards the border. No mafia can be used to justify this; it is the Makhzen itself that is opening the floodgates of despair. Whilst on its own territory the Alawite dictatorship carries out fierce repression — murdering Sahrawi activists and brutally persecuting influencers and dissidents — at the border it turns human beings into projectiles. And worst of all: the Spanish Government, in an act of colonial subservience, refuses to condemn Morocco, cowardly hiding behind the narrative of ‘alleged mafias’ so as not to upset its masters. They deliberately ignore the fact that the UN itself condemned Morocco months ago for using migration as a weapon of state, yet Spanish diplomacy prefers to look the other way rather than defend human life.

But to understand this barbarity, we must look beyond the immediate situation and consider the global geopolitical landscape. This stampede is no coincidence; it is a punishment. The trigger for this bloody reprisal has a name and a surname: Spain’s recent strategic agreement to purchase gas from Algeria. US imperialism and its puppet in the Maghreb will not tolerate the Spanish state attempting to secure its energy sovereignty independently of Moroccan interests, by strengthening ties with a country that maintains a firm stance against imperialist aggression.

Added to this energy-related ‘sin’ are other acts of ‘disobedience’ deemed unacceptable by Washington and Tel Aviv: the Spanish government’s public description of the Zionist massacre in Palestine as genocide and, above all, its categorical refusal to hand over the military bases at Rota and Morón for use in bombing campaigns against Iran. Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu do not forgive these affronts. The CIA, the Mossad and the Moroccan secret services have orchestrated this chaos at the border to destabilise the government, force a change of course in Spanish foreign policy and demonstrate who calls the shots in southern Europe.

The strategic context is one of open warfare. Anglo-Saxon and Israeli imperialism is losing control of the Straits of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb, crucial routes for their commercial and military hegemony. Faced with this debacle, they need to secure control of the Strait of Gibraltar by any means necessary. It is no coincidence that in Israel, politicians and the media are celebrating this debacle, rubbing their hands with glee at Spain’s humiliation. They are playing with people’s lives as if they were pawns in a macabre game.

And whilst imperialism settles its scores, the Spanish state is perfecting its machinery of death. Recently, the Supreme Court has had to reiterate that human rights are not suspended at sea, thereby limiting ‘immediate pushbacks’ at sea. The response from the right and the institutional far right? The president of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, has already demanded that the law be amended to create “maritime containment measures”. This is nothing more than a euphemism for demanding floating barriers, further militarisation and new death traps at sea. The state is not seeking to guarantee rights; it is seeking legal loopholes to continue killing with impunity.

Here at CGT Andalucía, we are in no doubt: our enemy is not the young Moroccan fleeing hunger and dictatorship. Our enemy is to be found in the palaces of Rabat, at the Pentagon, within the Mossad and at the Moncloa. Borders are a tool used by the bourgeoisie to divide the working class and safeguard their business interests.

For all these reasons, we demand:

1. An immediate diplomatic break with the Kingdom of Morocco. Enough of covering up for a dictatorship that sends its people to their deaths. The videos of its police are proof of a state crime.

2. The immediate closure and dismantling of the military bases at Rota and Morón. We will not allow Andalusian soil to serve as a rear base for the dirty wars waged by the US and Israel against Iran and the peoples of the Middle East.

3. Absolute energy sovereignty. We defend the gas agreement with Algeria in the face of imperial blackmail. This country’s foreign and energy policy is not to be negotiated with Trump or Netanyahu.

4. Complete repeal of the Immigration Act and an end to summary deportations. We reject any ‘containment measures’, whether on land or at sea. We demand the dismantling of Frontex and the immediate regularisation of all migrants.

5. Justice for the 57 victims. Criminal liability for the senior political and police officials, both Moroccan and Spanish, who ordered and carried out this massacre.

The truth is brutal, but it is our only weapon. There is no humanitarian crisis without politicians with blood on their hands. In memory of the 57 victims, in the name of class solidarity and against imperialism.
