All support and aid to the Venezuelans. Earthquake leaves hundreds dead in a country already punished by imperialism
The earthquakes that struck Venezuela this week generated an immediate humanitarian crisis. The tragedy found a country with an infrastructure already weakened by years of economic collapse.
Since the tremors occurred in the late afternoon of a national holiday (Carabobo Battle Day), a large part of the population was at home, which concentrated the impacts in residential areas.
The shocks were so intense that they were felt in Colombia and in capitals in northern Brazil, such as Boa Vista, Manaus, and Macapá.
Data confirmed by health authorities and the Venezuelan Congress point to between 188 and 235 dead, with more than 4,300 injured. However, international monitoring models and agency reports warn that the final number could be much higher.
The neighborhoods of Altamira, Los Palos Grandes, and San Bernardino were the hardest hit in the capital. Large residential buildings collapsed, and the gas supply was shut off for safety to prevent explosions.
At least eight hospitals suffered structural damage to their facades and interiors, forcing the transfer of critical patients under improvised conditions. Maiquetía International Airport is also closed.
Given the scale of the tragedy, local rescue teams and firefighters are working around the clock to search for buried survivors. The government activated international emergency protocols and requested support and funds from multilateral organizations.
The International Labour Network of Solidarity and Struggles expresses its condolences to all Venezuelan people and demands government aid from neighboring countries and the entire international community.
An immediate response is required, including the deployment of specialized rescue teams, health professionals, food, medicine, drinking water, equipment, and other necessary donations to face the humanitarian emergency.
Imperialism Diplomacy
The White House responded quickly to the calamity scenario. The US government announced the immediate sending of $150 million in emergency aid and publicly called Venezuelans "new and great friends."
However, it is worth noting that Venezuela lives with the effects of sanctions imposed by the United States, which, earlier this year, invaded the country, kidnapped President Nicolás Maduro, and continues to impose imperialist interference.
With the collaboration of interim president Delcy Rodríguez, Washington uses the disaster response to legitimize the local political transition. The strong American military and humanitarian presence focuses on regions that are electoral strongholds of Chavismo.
The strategy aims to mitigate the distrust of the local population and stabilize the territory. The central interest of the rapprochement also involves the objective of seizing Venezuelan oil.
This week, Donald Trump went public to brag and show the cruelest face of his government. He stated that with the oil taken from Venezuela, it would be possible to cover the costs of the war on Iran 28 times.
All support to the Venezuelans
Thousands of families await news of missing relatives and need urgent help to rebuild their lives. Therefore, a broad international solidarity campaign is essential in immediate response to the destruction caused by the earthquakes.
However, it is also necessary to continue defending the sovereignty of the Venezuelan people. Yankee imperialism, which only sucks the wealth of other countries, must be expelled from that country.
