Support for millions of strikers in India!
The Network
The member organisations of the International Trade Union Network of Solidarity and Struggles salute and support the strike by workers in India on 12 February. On behalf of the Network, we reproduce here a statement originally written by our comrades at APFUTU (Pakistan):
The member organisations of the International Trade Union Network of Solidarity and Struggles affirm their solidarity with the workers of India who are participating in the historic national general strike on Thursday 12 February 2026, called by ten Indian trade union federations. On this important day of struggle, we stand alongside the Indian working class, particularly those in the industrial sector, the public sector, education, health, farmers, peasants and agricultural workers who are courageously defending their fundamental trade union and social rights.
The member organisations of the International Trade Union Network of Solidarity and Struggles fully support the just and legitimate demands raised by this powerful mobilisation, including:
- The defence of workers' rights, trade union freedoms and social protections.
- Resistance against anti-worker labour legislation imposed by Narendra Modi's government, which replaces long-standing labour laws and undermines the right to freedom of association, collective bargaining and the right to strike.
- The demand for the repeal of these anti-worker labour codes as part of the so-called ‘Shram Shakti Niti, 2025’ programme programme.
- Opposition to widespread privatisation and the sale of strategic public enterprises and essential services, including railways, ports, coal, oil, steel, defence, banking, insurance, telecommunications, postal services, energy and other key sectors for the benefit of domestic and foreign capital.
- The fight against the commercialisation of education and healthcare.
- The promotion of a system of labour and public services based on dignity, equality and social justice.
The attack on workers' rights in India is part of a broader global offensive by neoliberal and capitalist forces against the organised working class. From South Asia to the four corners of the world, workers are facing similar policies of privatisation, deregulation, union repression and the erosion of social protections. The struggle of workers in India is therefore not isolated; it is a struggle for the entire international working class.
International solidarity is not just a slogan, but a fundamental principle of the trade union movement. The unity of workers across borders strengthens our collective power against exploitation and injustice. We salute the courage, determination and unity of the Indian trade union movement. Your struggle is our struggle.
Long live international working class solidarity!
Long live the struggle for social justice and workers' rights!
