The member organisations of the International Labour Network of Solidarity and Struggles support and relay the call for popular mobilisation launched by the Venezuelan trade unions that signed the joint statement on 17 December.

On 2 February, Venezuelan trade unions are calling for a rally to support the petition that will be filed with the Supreme Court of Justice to demand compliance with Article 91 of the Constitution: wages have not been adjusted for three years! They are also demanding that the random ‘vouchers’ that supplement their meagre wages (less than €3 per month) be incorporated into their actual wages.

Furthermore, the Human Rights Committee for the Defence of Retirees, Pensioners and the Elderly urges people to ‘continue the fight for economic and social rights’ and adds, ‘This is not the time to back down, nor to live on legends or external illusions. Democracy, freedom and well-being depend on us! Let us leave fear behind and save our homeland!’ "

The comrades of the National Committee for Conflicting Workers welcome the announcement of an amnesty law, which is a first achievement for those who have been fighting for years for respect for democratic rights and against repression. 367 prisoners have been released, some of whom had been deprived of their liberty for four or five years, but around 700 remain in detention. The families of political prisoners continue to gather outside prisons on a daily basis.
