The murder of an American citizen by immigration agents (ICE) in Minneapolis, United States, triggered a series of protests against Donald Trump's policies on Wednesday night (7).

Renee Good, 37, was a mother of three and worked as a legal observer for ICE raids. She was shot multiple times in the face as she tried to leave the area where agents were blocked by protesters.

Following the incident, Trump went to social media to defend the killer and characterize Renee as a "professional agitator," "troublemaker," and "violent," which would legitimize the agent's act of "self-defense."

However, the video of the tragedy shows that Renee only tries to leave the scene in her vehicle, while agents try to remove her from the car. After the shooting, ICE also prevented medical assistance from occurring. The response to Trump's authoritarianism and violent rhetoric came to the streets with thousands of people protesting in various cities across the US, especially those considered major havens for immigrants.

In addition to the vigil held in Minneapolis, where hundreds gathered at the site of the tragedy despite the intense cold, demonstrations also took place in New York, Miami, San Francisco, Boston, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, Portland, and Washington.

On their signs and slogans, protesters demanded an end to operations against immigrants and the Trump administration. There were also protests against US actions in Venezuela.

Politics of hate

A large part of Trump's presidential campaign focused on portraying immigrants living in the US as responsible for violence and other social problems. After his electoral victory, the billionaire initiated an aggressive anti-immigration policy.

It is estimated that by 2025 alone, 2.5 million immigrants will have left the US. 605,000 were violently deported. Of the 328,000 immigrants arrested last year, 65,000 remain in detention centers. Although the numbers are not official, statistics indicate that at least 35 people have died in ICE actions or while in their custody in prisons. Dozens of families have already been separated, and videos on social media demonstrate the drama of this racist policy.

Confronting Trump in the streets

Street protests against Trump's terrorist actions are expected to intensify in the coming days in the US and around the world, reflecting his imperialist actions that threaten Americans and various populations worldwide.

The kidnapping of Nicolás Maduro and his wife generated protests last week in major cities in Brazil, but also in Colombia, Cuba, England, Germany, Belgium, France, Turkey, Spain, and Mexico.

Trump's constant threats to invade Greenland and seize its territory have also led the local population to take to the streets to repudiate the imperialist annexation plan.

It is necessary to strengthen the anti-imperialist demonstrations against Donald Trump. Only the working classes of the countries can defeat the fascism of Trump and the global far-right.
