Statement by the Sudanese Professionals and Syndicates Coordination on the disastrous anniversary of the October 25 coup

Today marks the fourth anniversary of the October 25, 2021 coup, which reversed the path of transition and plunged the country into a dark tunnel of war and total collapse. This coup was not only a seizure of power, but a stab in the heart of the glorious December revolution, a break with the alliance with the masses of people who dreamed of freedom, peace, and justice.

[◼️] The coup plunged the country into a devastating war that exposed the lie of its slogans, destroyed what remained of state institutions, opened the door to economic collapse, displaced millions, and violated the rights of workers in all sectors. Workers and professionals were the first to pay the price, losing their jobs, seeing their wages reduced, production halted, the working environment destroyed, and deprived of even minimal social security.

[◼️] The public and private sectors have been damaged, workplaces have been transformed into areas of displacement and forced unemployment, thousands of productive and service projects have been halted, and opportunities for secure employment have been reduced.

[◼️] Sudanese workers today face inhumane conditions:

[◼️] Missing wages or wages that do not keep pace with inflation,

[◼️] Lack of social security and healthcare,

[◼️] Mass layoffs,

[◼️] Widespread exploitation,

[◼️] And a complete deterioration of union rights

The October 25 coup was not just a political event, but a national, economic, and humanitarian disaster that affected every Sudanese household. Nevertheless, at the heart of the resistance in displacement camps, refugee sites, and fragile work areas, workers and professionals continue to raise the banner of revolution and continue to fight for a democratic country in which rights are respected and human dignity is upheld.

[◼️] In this commemoration, the coordination of Sudanese professionals and unions emphasizes that there is no other way forward than to end the war, restore a democratic civilian regime, and rebuild state institutions on the foundations of social justice and respect.
We also reaffirm our total commitment to continuing the union struggle to:

[◼️] Bring back independent unions.

[◼️] Protect workers' rights to fair wages and generous working conditions.
