We Demand the Release of Adeyemi Abayomi!
The Network
Adeyemi Abayomi, a young bookshop attendant at Iva Valley Books in Abuja, has been abducted by the Tinubu regime. Adeyemi is a husband and father, a hardworking young man whose only “crime” is working for a bookshop selling pro-labour books in the Labour House owned by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). This abduction is not an isolated incident—the government has been targeting activists, labour leaders, and anyone who questions its anti-poor policies.
These attacks are designed to create an atmosphere of fear and intimidation, to create the impression amongst the populace that a conspiracy is afoot against the government. The words "treason" and "sedition" are on the lips of every administration apologist. The only treason we see is the government's surrender to the diktats of the IMF/World Bank, which has caused mass hunger and poverty amongst the people.
We know these tactics well: arresting the youth, intimidating activists, and trying to break the fighting spirit of the masses. But we refuse to be silenced. We join organised labour and other civil society organisations in demanding for the release of Adeyemi and all those arrested and detained since the #Endsars, #Endhunger and #End bad governance protests. Our struggle for justice continues, and we will not back down until Adeyemi and all those arrested are free.
We call on all progressive and democratic forces — students & trade unions, civil society organizations, professional associations and concerned citizens — to join in demanding for the immediate and unconditional release of Adeyemi and all others languishing in detention for no just cause. An injury to one is an injury to all.
We demand the following:
1. Immediate release of Adeyemi and all #Endsars, #EndBadGovernance & #Endhunger peaceful protesters languishing in detention!
2. An end to the harassment and detention of activists!
3. Respect for the right of the masses to protest and organize freely and peacefully.
Stand for freedom against repression , speak out, and join the call for justice. The struggle continues until Adeyemi Abayomi and all other victims are released.
