International mobilization against the G20 and its genocidal governments

In November this year, the G20 summit will take place in Brazil. The G20 brings together the countries with the largest economies in the world, whose member states meet annually to discuss economic, political and social initiatives.

Brazil has chaired the G20 since December last year, with a mandate until November, when the summit will take place on the 18th and 19th in Rio de Janeiro. As president of the group, Lula has defined the meeting's agenda, the main axes of which are: fighting hunger, poverty and inequality; energy transition and tackling climate change; and reforms of multilateral institutions (such as the UN, IMF and World Bank).

There is nothing more false than Lula's "objectives". Capitalist countries have no interest in solving problems such as social inequality. On the contrary, this chasm is getting deeper and deeper. In fact, the G20 meeting is a great spectacle for the media, in which the imperialist world leaders try to convey the image that they are interested in and willing to solve the world economic crisis and the destruction of the planet.

We have been living through an economic crisis since 2008, without any solution coming from capitalism, which has only applied the precariousness of work uninterruptedly, through reforms in labor and social security laws in various countries, privatizations, lack of investment in health and education. The United Nations predicts that if current global policy continues, by 2030 there will be 575 million people living in extreme poverty.

The G20 will not move towards solving the world's problems, nor will it stop the speed of degradation and destruction that we are experiencing. Therefore, CSP-Conlutas is committed to repeating in Brazil the great mobilizations of the G20 in Argentina in 2018.

Unions and social movements in Brazil make international call against G20

Popular movements and trade union organizations are organizing to build resistance to the G20 in Brazil. A call for the construction of a "parallel summit" called the Peoples' Summit against the G20" has been created and is being convened for November 16, 17 and 18, simultaneously with the G20 summit of heads of state and government, which will take place on November 18 and 19, 2024 in Rio de Janeiro.

The People's Summit ahead of the G20 is an important space for unity of action against imperialism, for organizing the opposition to capitalism by organizing a critical debate on issues relevant to world society.

The "Peoples' Summit" will include workshops and panel discussions, as well as a large international demonstration in Rio de Janeiro. On July 3, there will be a meeting of foreign ministers and we are organizing a demonstration that will not only repudiate the G20 in Brazil, but also the genocidal policies of the countries that support and are complicit in Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.

Prior to the demonstration on July 3, there will be another meeting of the "People's Summit in Front of the G20" organization on July 1 and 2 in Rio de Janeiro. A virtual international plenum against the G20 is also being planned for July or August.

CSP-Conlutas is calling on trade union, social and popular movements to join the fight against the G20, debunking the hypocritical discourse that capitalism is interested in solving social inequality or destroying the planet.

We would like to invite the organizations of the International Labour Network of Solidarity and Struggle to join this anti-imperialist mobilization by joining the events of the "People's Summit in Front of the G20" and participating with their banners in the marches on the streets of Rio de Janeiro in November.
