The Sukhopolovianska community of Pryluky district, Chernihiv region, experienced mass layoffs of health workers due to the closure of more than two dozen rural health posts. However, with the active participation and legal support of the Be Like Nina medical movement, the team managed to challenge the illegal decision of local authorities to liquidate medical facilities and begin the reintegration process.

“We had a union of six people, we decided not to give up, we went to see a lawyer and they told us the amount to pay. Thank God, Oksana Slobodiana (head of the Be like Nina movement, editor’s note) helped us financially. And we won the first case,” says Svitlana Sydorenko, head of the local independent union of healthcare workers (CNP CPMCS PRRCHO).

Five other reinstatement cases are currently pending before the courts.

“I was not fired, but I also received minimum wage. In the case of my salary, the main requirement is to ask for proof [that the payroll exceeds 85% which qualifies for the salary reduction] - an estimate for 2023. We ask to know the salary of the director. Because we know that the director received 200,000 Hryvnia for two weeks of “vacation pay”. He paid large salaries with bonuses to the head nurse, the accountant and his deputy. The director resigned, he fled. The Court did not satisfy the request for this proof. The judge said this was irrelevant. Even if management presented data to the court on the total amount they received from NHSU they would claim that they did not have enough money to pay our salaries under Resolution No. 28. So we will have to do call,” says Svitlana..
