Yesterday in Warsaw, a meeting was held with Yuri Samoilov, head of the Independent Union of Miners of Ukraine in Kryvyi Rih, coordinator of the Local Confederation of Free Trade Unions.

This was the first in a series of European meetings on the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine co-organized by IP - Workers' Initiative union and International Labour Network of Solidarity and Struggles. The meeting was also attended by Sergey Movchan from the Колективи Солідарності • Solidarity Collectives from Kyiv

More than 50 people from various structures of our union had the opportunity to hear first-hand about changes in labour relations and wages during the wartime and the challenges these changes present to trade unions.

Current needs were discussed, also the role of international solidarity with the Ukrainian working class and practical ways to support independent trade unions in their fight against the Russian occupation and the neoliberal labor law reforms introduced by the Ukrainian government in the shadow of the war.

The next meeting with Yuri Samoilov will take place in Paris on February 25. As part of his European trip, Samoilov will also visit Lyon, Madrid, Lisbon, Milan, Padua and Katowice. Those interested in supporting the Third Workers' Aid Convoy to Ukraine, which is planned for spring 2023, are encouraged to donate to a dedicated collection: A collection for solidarity!
