In arbitrary decision, General Motors fires Mancha, metalworker and labour union leader
Reinstatement, now! Communication was made on 10/11, in an act of antiunion practice
CSP-Conlutas
In an arbitrary and antiunion decision, General Motors, in São José dos Campos, Sao Paulo, fired unioninst Luiz Carlos Prates, Mancha. The dismissal was communicated on Thursday (10).
Mancha has been a metalworker at GM for 35 years and was surprised by the plant's management, which unilaterally fired him. He had recently returned to his function at the plant, as a maintenance electrician.
During more than three decades, the union leader was ahead of countless mobilizations and strikes in defense of GM workers. He has also worked directly in negotiations with the factory, in the Wage and Profit Sharing Campaigns.
Nowadays, Mancha is a member of the National Executive Secretariat of the CSP-Conlutas Labour and Peoples' Federation. That's why he is entitled to job stability.
The São José dos Campos and Região Metalworkers Labour Union sent an extrajudicial notification to GM's labour relations director, demanding the immediate cancellation of the dismissal and the reversion of this abuse of rights.
The entity considers GM violated article 8 of the Federal Constitution, as well as Convention 98 of the International Labor Organization (ILO). Both refer to the freedom of labor union association.
History of struggles
Mancha is a historical leader in the fight in defense of the working class in Brazil. He was president of the Metalworkers Union in several administrations and reinforced the mobilizations of several other categories.
The union leader is also recognized abroad and has participated in several international class organizations.
GM's attitude is a disrespect to the freedom of organization and an inadmissible political persecution.
International Labour Network of Solidarity and Struggles repudiates this attack to the union organization and to the working class and, together with the Metalworkers Union, demands GM to immediately cancel the dismissal.
We also calls on several workers' organizations, personalities and metalworkers to join this struggle.
To support Mancha, use the motion model below:
Motion against Mancha dismissal and in solidarity with the brazilian labour union leader
